Fresh from Milan 2016 the new sofa from HAY and the Bouroullec Brothers is a real eye-catcher. It comes flat-packed for ease of transportation and is so simple it ‘CAN’ be built by the user – we love it.

For the London Design Festival 2013: they set up a still life depicting a dinner party in progress at the V&A museum for the London Design Festival. They installed a large dining table set for a party of guests in the ornate gilded Norfolk House Music Room in the British Galleries of the V & A museum. Cutlery is skewed, glasses are half full and food is strewn across the table, as if the party is in progress but all the guests have vanished – a quirky concept showing their products in situ and in such a grand setting.
If you are interested in the Pastoe range contact Matt or Helen in the showroom on 01423 524777.
Hope you enjoyed our Designer in Focus post, got to say Scholten & Baijings design philosophy is unique and inspiring.

Gubi was founded in 1967 by Gubi and Lisbeth Olsen in Denmark. They initially focused on producing Olsen’s furniture designs and selling textiles to the retail sector.
The term ‘Chasing forgotten icons’ has led Gubi to re-launch a collection of designs from the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. As well as icons, their uncanny ability to recognise original ideas and inspirations has also resulted in a unique collection of exciting new designs from designers such as GamFratesi and Komplot Design.
Some of the stand-out and most recognisable designs from Gubi –
The iconic Adnet mirror is a real stand out piece from Jacques Adnet. The mirror is made from hand-stitched Italian natural tanned full grain leather in black or tan and oozes quality.

Mategot Collection – Mathieu Matégot’s organic forms and lightness of touch create a sense of joy and the ground breaking and innovative techniques that he applied resulted in unique aesthetics and, above all, contemporary designs. Today, Matégot’s designs are equally fit for the purpose as when they were originally conceived, and his legendary designs are both timeless and classic. The Nagasaki chair is one of few three-legged chairs and is still Matégot’s best-known piece. Gubi’s collection of original Mategot design include Nagasaki Chair, Dedal Shelf, Nagasaki Table and Mategot Coatrack.
The Pedrera family of lights were designed by Barba Corsini, a leading functionalist architect, in association with his protegé, Joaquim Ruiz Millet. In 1955, Corsini, realised his contemporary vision through his renovation of the La Pedrera loft space (designed by Gaudi) and the furnishings he custom designed for it- the Pedrera PD2 Floor Light, Pedrera Coffee Table and the Pedrera ANA Pendant Light
We love Gubi at Cimmermann, their iconic products and attention to detail is second to none, long may it continue…

top 5 wooden dining tables
A good wooden dining table is a thing of beauty and master craftsmanship. Whether you like a beautifully sleek finish or a more natural one exposing the beauty of raw wood we offer our advice and favourites –
The ultimate wooden table – e15 Bigfoot. It has become a real Design Classic since it was designed in 1994 by Philipp Mainzer. During the seasoning of solid wood, the legs form their characteristic cracks, which make every table unique and is considered a characteristic of the table. Bigfoot is a table which will age well and develop its own patina with time and lends itself to both formal and informal dining occasions.
With Split, Muuto wanted the table to have an organic expression and to combine a structural solidity with a seemingly more delicate balancing act. The detail of the legs being split and bent has the expression and quality of a skilled cabinet-maker and is likely to become a hallmark of the Split Table. Split Table is a great partner with Muuto Nerd Chair.
The Hay Copenhague Table is a stylish and contemporary table designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Hay. It is part of a collection of furniture which has been designed for the University of Copenhagen. The Copenhague Table is a simple design with an uncomplicated identity.
4. Gubi Dining Table
The Gubi Dining Table is a stylishly simple wooden dining table with a real timeless elegance from the designers Komplot. Available in 3 different colours – Oak, Walnut or Black-stained Ash and 3 different shapes – Round, Ellipse and Rectangular. This Gubi Table has a retro/vintage Scandinavian feel to us and looks stunning mixed with a modern chair.
A solid oak table with a brushed surface finish, available in Black or Natural. Amazingly raw and solid design that highlights the quality and finish of the oak. As with all Tom Dixon‘s designs this oozes timeless appeal yet has such a significant but simple design – we love it!
A good dining table is a big investment but choose wisely and it will last a lifetime.

A quote from the founder of &Tradition – “We want to connect with the old masters, while giving space to new designers to define what will become future classics. We see a kinship between the old masters, who were avant-garde in their time, and new designers creating the ground-breaking icons of today”.
&Tradition is a Danish design company established in 2010 with the founding principle being tradition tied to innovation. Their unique library of furniture and lighting spans from the 1930s to the present day and includes designs by internationally renowned designers.
One of their most iconic products is the Flowerpot Light designed by Verner Panton. The Flowerpot light with its two semi-circular spheres facing each other has long proved its lasting design quality and is just as much an icon of our time.
Newer stand out pieces by &Tradition include the Mayor Sofa. A re-issue designed by Arne Jacobsen. Mayor sofa was created for Søllerød City Hall, built 1939-1942. The Danish architects Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen were responsible for the entire town hall aesthetic appearance, from the design of the entire building to furniture and small details such as door handles. The two architects created many award-winning buildings together, and at the time furniture designs came second. Together they created, in addition to Søllerød Town Hall, numerous of other award-winning projects. Now, more than 70 years later, the team receives yet another award for their astonishing designs. Recently the MAYOR sofa has won the award for “Best Reissue” in the prestigious Wallpaper* Design Award 2013.
With the Shuffle Table Mia Hamborg gives new life to the old Nordic craft tradition of turning wood by adding the colour and playful forms from old painted wooden toys. It’s up to you where you want to put this fine piece of furniture and being truly Nordic and democratic, you can even decide the form and height of the table. This new black marble version is stunning and adds an element of sophistication, great example of clever Scandinavian Design.
One of the most respected designers of modern time – Benjamin Hubert has also designed lights for &Tradition. The spinning-top toy, a childhood favourite, inspires to the joyful form of the Spinning Light along with the process of metal spinning. Here, form truly meets function in an innovative way. It’s sleek, it’s sexy and it’s sure to become a new classic.
The Catch Chair is another favourite designed by Jamie Hayon. Catch Chair’s armrests extend from the shell like literal limbs, ready to embrace you as you sit down. In addition to being a witty personification, it is also an eye-catching piece of design. Serpentine lines give it a playful lightness that is counterbalanced by a sturdy, well-balanced base and legs that ensure maximum comfort. Available in many fabric and leather options.
&Tradition are not one of the most well known Scandinavian brands but we love them!
