Philippe Starck & Flos

Iconic names in lighting

Philippe Starck & Flos are 2 things that just work together. For many years these two design giants have worked together to produce some of the worlds best lamps.

In August Flos are celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the Gun Lamp family by Philippe Starck originally designed to spur debate between the collusion of war and money. Since the launch of the Gun Lamp family, Flos has donated 20% of the profits from the sales of the Gun Lamp to ‘Fratelli Dell’Uomo,’ a human rights organisation working in underdeveloped countries.

Terence Woodgate – Solid Lights

New Lighting range from design legend

Solid Lights by Terence Woodgate feature LED pendants and surface mounted downlights in natural materials such as Carrara and Nero Marquina marble, oak and walnut. The collection is optimised for MEGAMAN® high lumen output LED lamps, with excellent glare control for comfort. Solid is designed with effective thermal cooling for LED performance and longevity.

The design of Solid Lights means low glare and a direct even beam of light

A design feature that appeals to us is a unique support design which enables the fitting on the pendant version to be adjusted so that it hangs completely vertical and true.

With the ceiling mounted version all the fittings are hidden and a small shadow gap between the ceiling and shade allows for lamp cooling.

As marble and wood is a natural material the hue and veining will vary from piece to piece, making each shade body unique. You can get a cylinder or cone version in both the ceiling and pendant versions of Solid light.

Scandinavian Design – &Tradition

A quote from the founder of &Tradition – “We want to connect with the old masters, while giving space to new designers to define what will become future classics. We see a kinship between the old masters, who were avant-garde in their time, and new designers creating the ground-breaking icons of today”.

&Tradition is a Danish design company established in 2010 with the founding principle being tradition tied to innovation. Their unique library of furniture and lighting spans from the 1930s to the present day and includes designs by internationally renowned designers.

One of their most iconic products is the Flowerpot Light  designed by Verner Panton. The Flowerpot light with its two semi-circular spheres facing each other has long proved its lasting design quality and is just as much an icon of our time.

Newer stand out pieces by &Tradition include the Mayor Sofa. A re-issue designed by Arne Jacobsen. Mayor sofa was created for Søllerød City Hall, built 1939-1942. The Danish architects Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen were responsible for the entire town hall aesthetic appearance, from the design of the entire building to furniture and small details such as door handles. The two architects created many award-winning buildings together, and at the time furniture designs came second. Together they created, in addition to Søllerød Town Hall, numerous of other award-winning projects. Now, more than 70 years later, the team receives yet another award for their astonishing designs. The Catch Chair is another favourite designed by Jamie Hayon. Catch Chair’s armrests extend from the shell like literal limbs, ready to embrace you as you sit down. In addition to being a witty personification, it is also an eye-catching piece of design. Serpentine lines give it a playful lightness that is counterbalanced by a sturdy, well-balanced base and legs that ensure maximum comfort. Available in many fabric and leather options.
