Vitra Wool Blankets

Keep warm with these cool blankets

Like many other legendary 20th-century architects and designers, Charles and Ray Eames, too, spent time designing textiles to realize their ideas in terms of colours, shapes and materials. The “Dot Pattern” was created in 1947 in conjunction with an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The pattern consists of variations of a graphic design made up of crosses and dots to become a large composition, and demonstrates references to the abstract paintings by Ray Eames from the 1930s. The blankets are reversible making them even more appealing.

The two-toned patterns of Girard’s wool blankets were originally conceived as printing motifs for decorative wall panels, fabrics or pillows. In collaboration with the Girard family, these graphic designs are now being executed in a jacquard weave to produce this fine collection of wool blankets. An additional effect of this weaving technique is seen in the alternating constellations of vibrant and muted colour tones.

Barbican Tower Flat

brutalist masterpiece

Over the past 10 years the Thomson brothers have had the dream job of working on a variety of interior design projects on one of our favourite brutalist buildings, the Barbican. The Barbican is a residential estate built during the 1960s and is a prominent example of British concrete brutalist architecture. We have had the pleasure of working with the them on a number of projects and on their most recent project, a tower flat, we have supplied some iconic lights and furniture. Here are some images of the pieces in situ looking great.

Timorous Beasties – coolest prints on the planet

Wallpaper & Fabric from Scotland

Timorous Beasties was established in Glasgow in 1990 by Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons, who met studying textile design at Glasgow School of Art. Today, the studio is a diverse operation and has emerged as a multi-award-winning, internationally acclaimed icon.

Timorous Beasties’ work embodies a unique diversity of pattern, ranging from design that echoes a golden age of copperplate engraving (a time-honoured classic is the Thistle range; or Merian Palm superwide wallpaper) to example of a distinctly edgy nature, an elegant transgression, a display of chic irreverence. Yet, the studio fully engages a design discourse with textiles history by lending an aesthetic evolution to time-honoured motifs.

With their range of Toiles, by reversing the context of toiles de Jouy, they transformed the traditional toile device to create an exclusively modern urban genre. The New York Toile above is their newest Toile, looks great in the Red/Pink colourway.

Rather racy Oriental Orchid wallpaper

The Oriental Orchid pattern is an extravagant 4 screen hand printed wallpaper. With the Oriental Orchid design, the organic meets the graphic: delicate orchids boldly intertwine with subtle print images from a Japanese Manga cartoon, depicting activities of depraved sexual appetite.

Marble – Tasteful and Luxurious

Marble products at Cimmermann

Marble is a stunning product that has been used for 100’s of years. From old Italian masters to modern day designers marble has always epitomised sheer indulgence and luxury.

A good way to introduce a piece of tactile marble into your home is with a light or a table. We choose some of our favourites –

Flos Arco Light

Arco Light is a design classic from Achille Castiglioni. We don’t need to say much about this icon of lighting design. One thing to remember is you won’t be able to move the base on your own – 60 kgs of the finest Italian marble.

e15 Enoki Tables

e15 Enoki Tables combine modern colours with the timeless quality of marble so fluidly. Cleverly toying with material, colour and dimensions, these versatile tables are available in combinations of rich marble and coloured steel.

&Tradition Shuffle Table

With the shuffle Table Mia Hamborg gives new life to the old Nordic craft tradition of turning wood by adding the colour and playful forms from old painted wooden toys. This new black marble version is stunning and adds an element of sophistication.

Flos Snoopy Light

A design classic from Achille Castiglioni. The base is made from the finest Italian marble and the shade from enamelled glass.

Vitra Plate Table

Simple form made with luxurious materials, the Plate Table offers a lesson in simplicity.  Quite in keeping with Jasper Morrison’s philosophy of “super normal” design, the Plate Coffee Tables have a classic shape and finely balanced proportions.

We love marble here at Cimmermann, the feel of it, the look of it and the fact each piece is unique – add some marble to your interior you won’t regret it.
