Last year we supplied the furniture and lights for the now Michelin starred restaurant – Man Behind The Curtain. Here is a great interview with the chef Michael O’Hare talking about his amazing food and what inspires him. You can see the beautiful furniture from Gubi including the Masculo Chair and the iconic Grasshopper Light.
Carl Hansen & Son make some of the most iconic Scandinavian wooden furniture of all time. They offer a vast range of wood finishes which can sometimes be a bit daunting. To help you choose the perfect finish watch this video –
Possibly the most iconic design by Hans Wegner is the Wishbone Chair. Despite the chair’s straightforward appearance it takes more than 100 steps to make one. Amongst other things, the hand-woven seat consists of more than 120 meters of paper cord, watch how its done –
Celebrating the beauty of Plywood
All the products are made in UK and Latvia using FSC/PEFC certified timber, sourced from responsibly managed forests.
Although design with Plywood has been around for many years, take the Eames LTR Table for example designed in the 1950’s, it has now become extremely popular and in our opinion for good reason. Plywood offers texture, simplicity and stunning looks and is relatively cheap compared to other woods. The ByALEX range of furniture includes Benches, Tables, Desks, Stools and pushes the use of plywood design to the limits.
The A Stool is the ultimate cool stool. Perfect used throughout the home as a stool, small table, laptop stand or whatever you feel like. Made from plywood, its distinctive graphic style was inspired by the designers love of typography.
The packaging of all the ByALEX range is pretty cool too, using brown cardboard, the A Stools can even be carried around.
The whole range is very easy to assemble with the screws and allen key provided, watch below just how easy it actually is –
Highlights from the world's best Furniture Fair
After many miles walked, many espresso’s drunk here are our highlights from Salone 2015 –
As always the Vitra stand was superb with a theme around their packaging almost like a warehouse, hence the many crates. New sizes (height increased by 2″) and colours on the DSW & DSR chairs due to people on average being larger since they were designed in the 1950’s.
There was a new upholstered version of the Prouve Standard chair, adding ultra comfort to an already superb chair.
The iconic Vitra Polder sofa has been re-sized and re-jigged with new brass buttons and fabric choices.
The SCP show was titled – ‘The Arrangement of Furniture in a Room’ and took place in central Milan. This was a cool show that had a collection of old Vintage furniture mixed with SCP’s new designs, a great mix and our favourite show.
It’s always good to see the stunning Balzac Chair, love the Tan Russet leather which only improves with age.
Another classic on show was the Agnes Shelving unit, a firm favourite here at Cimmermann.
The new Chouchin reverse lights made a good impression, the main light is finished in blown glass and the bottom of the diffuser is in the vivid colour.
Tom Dixon went all out this year, hiring an old warehouse in downtown Milan and turning it into – ‘The Cinema‘. As usual he didn’t disappoint with a stunning collection of new lights. A particular favourite was the Melt light, which looks totally different when turned on, it appears to become see through.
The Italian Masters of Plastic didn’t disappoint again. An amazing collection of new and old products with a twist. The Neon Boookworm was really cool and the new Mat finish Fly lights were stand-out pieces for us.
Salone Milan 2015 didn’t disappoint, always an amazing show with plenty to see and be inspired by. Hope you enjoyed the round-up of our favourites, here’s looking forward to next year.

With the development in wireless technology the home desk is now a sleek, uncluttered affair. Below are some of our favourites desks for the Home Office –
A compact size desk that creates a warm, intimate, orderly workspace. The desktop has a nifty storage compartment with an openable flap door for storing your tablet, computer, pencils, paper or desktop mementos. There’s also a stand for resting your tablet/phone up against. The back legs have slots for running up the wires, which are held in the niche under the desktop. Finished in either Oak or Walnut.
As graceful as it is decorative: this home desk with its refined, lavishly produced base and understated colours is one of George Nelson’s design classics. Originally conceived as a ladies’ desk, today it has many uses as a small workstation at home. The legs are made from chromed metal tubing, the writing surface is white laminate, the wraparound wooden frame is finished in walnut veneer and the multi-coloured drawer dividers are in plastic.
The Cedric desk is an exercise in simplicity, refinement and deft detailing. Kay+Stemmer have drawn on all of their Parnham School training to produce a piece that has perfect proportion and reveals a mastery of craftmanship often overlooked in contemporary design. Cedric is made from solid European walnut and features an orange or brown leather top and lined drawers.
A stylish and contemporary desk designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Hay. It is part of a collection of furniture which has been designed for the University of Copenhagen. The Copenhague Desk is a simple design with an uncomplicated identity. It is both functional and elegant with a clever back screen to prop your tablet against.
This stunning Desk by legendary designer Greta Grossman features 3 drawers, ball feet and is finished in a stunning American Walnut, a real classic. Grossman was highly influenced by European Modernism, which can be seen in the design of this beauty.
Hope we have inspired you to create a Home Office of your dreams and you like our choice of favourite desks.
